WHY WHY MOTHER DAY?
Mother's Day is a holiday dedicated to celebrating mothers and motherhood. It is a day to recognize the important role that mothers play in our lives and to show appreciation for all the work and sacrifices that they make for their families.
The modern Mother's Day celebration originated in the United States in the early 20th century, when activist Anna Jarvis organized a day to honor mothers who had lost their sons in World War I. Over time, the holiday became more commercialized and has been celebrated on different days in different countries, but the core idea of celebrating and showing gratitude to mothers remains the same.
WHO IS ANNA JARVIR?
Anna Jarvis was an American activist who is widely credited with founding the modern Mother's Day holiday. She was born in 1864 in Webster, West Virginia, and grew up in a family that was deeply involved in social activism and community service.WHAT HAPPENEH TO HER?
After her mother's death in 1905, Jarvis became more interested in the idea of creating a national holiday to honor mothers. Her vision was to create a day that would "honor mothers for the person they are, not the work they do." In 1908, she organized the first Mother's Day celebration at a Methodist church in West Virginia, and the holiday gradually gained popularity from there.
Over time, Jarvis became concerned about the commercialization of Mother's Day and the way that greeting card companies and other businesses were profiting from the holiday. She became an outspoken critic of the holiday's commercialization and spent the later years of her life trying to stop companies from profiting from the holiday. While Jarvis is credited with founding Mother's Day, she later became disillusioned with the commercialization of the holiday and spent much of her later life trying to erase it. She passed away in 1948, largely forgotten and deeply in debt, but her legacy lives on in the annual Mother's Day celebrations that we continue to enjoy to this day.
Mother's Day is typically celebrated on the second Sunday of May in many countries, including the United States, Canada, and Australia. In other countries, such as the United Kingdom, it is celebrated on a different date. Whether celebrated in person with a thoughtful gift or through other methods of appreciation, Mother's Day is a day to express our love and gratitude towards the wonderful mothers in our lives.
